2024-05-29

On the afternoon of November 24, 2023, the inaugural meeting of the Molecular Diagnostic Group of the 11th Committee of the Laboratory Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association was held at the Yuexiu International Conference Center in Guangzhou. The conference was chaired by Professor Cai Zhen from the Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University. The attendees included the leader of the Molecular Diagnosis Group, Professor Zheng Lei from the Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University, and expert members from all over the country. Professor Wang Chuanxin, Chairman of the Laboratory Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, was also invited to attend the conference.

Professor Zheng Lei first delivered a welcome speech, introducing the historical background and important significance of the establishment of the new Molecular Diagnostic Group. Subsequently, Chairman Wang Chuanxin delivered a speech to the conference, expressing his affirmation of the work of the previous Molecular Diagnostic Group and his earnest hope for the work of the current group. The outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic has made nucleic acid detection PCR technology has become a well-known term, promoting the rapid development of molecular diagnosis. In the post pandemic era, the Molecular Diagnosis Group has a long way to go in terms of how to reorganize the resources of molecular diagnosis, and how to standardize the development of detection technology and clinical applications.

The establishment ceremony of the new academic group was held, and Vice Chairman Ou Qishui read out the list of molecular diagnostic groups of the 11th Committee of the Laboratory Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Professor Li Jinming from the Clinical Examination Center of the National Health Commission and Professor Duan Yong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University served as advisors to the academic group, Professor Zheng Lei served as the group leader, and the four deputy group leaders were Professor Luo Yang from Chongqing University, Professor Jiang Li from the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital of the Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Liu Shanrong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University, and Professor Cao Yingping from the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, as well as 40 other expert members and 2 secretaries (detailed list can be found at the end of the article).

Professor Liu Zijie from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University gave a work summary report on behalf of the previous Molecular Diagnostic Group. Although the epidemic has been fluctuating over the past three years, the work of the group has been carried out in an orderly manner under the leadership of the previous group leader, Professor Duan Yong. Professor Liu mentioned that while giving consideration to the anti epidemic work of COVID-19, the team has successfully completed its work tasks in promoting the development and transformation of molecular diagnostic technology and organizing academic conferences and exchange activities, and believes that the new team will be more brilliant under the leadership of Professor Zheng Lei.

Professor Zheng Lei, the newly appointed leader of the academic group, reported on the work plan of this academic group, including the overview of the academic group, the current situation of the molecular diagnosis industry, and the work arrangement of the academic group. Professor Zheng Lei introduced that it is a golden age for the development of molecular diagnosis, and the emerging molecular diagnosis technology has developed rapidly. Its clinical application has covered many fields such as infectious diseases, genetic diseases, tumor individualization, pharmacogenomics, population health survey, etc. The work plan of this academic group includes promoting the standardized development of the molecular diagnosis industry LDT policy analysis and guidance, technology platform promotion and popularization, molecular diagnostic quality supervision and training will be carried out through various methods such as combining online and offline, linkage between student groups and societies, and collaboration between hospitals and enterprises, striving to create new achievements for the development of molecular diagnostic research groups.

At the same time, Professor Cai Zhen gave a report on the proposal for consensus and standard writing at the meeting, providing a detailed introduction to the molecular diagnosis related consensus and standards prepared by the current academic group, including the technical and clinical background of the proposed consensus and standard writing, the significance of the writing, the content outline, and time arrangement. He sincerely invited experts from the academic group to participate widely and actively initiate the development and promotion of molecular diagnosis consensus and standards, helping to promote the standardized development of the molecular diagnosis industry.

In response to Professor Zheng Lei's proposal for the work plan of this academic group and Professor Cai Zhen's report, the attending experts had a lively discussion. The discussion session was chaired by Professor Liu Shanrong and Professor Luo Yang, the deputy leaders of the study group. Several experts, including Professor Guo Wei from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, Researcher Cheng Wei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Professor Ou Qishui from the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, Professor Fang Hezhi from Wenzhou Medical University, and Professor Liu Zijie from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, gave enthusiastic speeches and conducted in-depth discussions on key issues such as how molecular diagnostics can effectively cultivate talents, leverage disciplinary advantages, and strengthen cooperation with clinical disciplines.

Finally, Chairman Wang Chuanxin gave a concluding speech to the conference, providing guiding suggestions for the revision and writing of relevant guidelines and standards. He also pointed out that the development of molecular diagnosis should closely focus on key clinical issues, especially the difficult and hot issues that clinical practice is very concerned about. He hoped that Professor Zheng Lei would lead the new Molecular Diagnosis Group to take this conference as a new starting point and actively carry out multi center joint work nationwide. He wished the Molecular Diagnosis Group continued stability and progress.
